We couldn't be more excited to announce the latest addition to the Firesnap family, Deanna Root.
As a growing marketing agency, we're constantly on the lookout for that rare balance of people who are wicked smart with an entrepreneurial spirit and totally hug-able at the same time (which is harder to find than you might think).
Needless to say, Deanna totally fits our criteria and you can learn more about her below.
Professional Background & Expertise
Deanna is a former entrepreneur (we love entrepreneurs at Firesnap, btw) with over 20 years experience, spanning both the entertainment and technical industries.
Deanna’s history with Apple was a quite successful one, becoming #1 worldwide in support, #1 worldwide in sales and receiving multiple AppleCare Excellence Awards. Her work with a special consumer insights engineering team helped Apple research and improve upon software and hardware products as well as internal support processes. From there she took over the role of handling over 2,500 custom Apple stores for B2B & B2C customers as Master Data Analyst. During her 5 years at Apple some notable projects she was involved in included; worldwide project to revamp the data platform for apple.com, FaceTime launch, and personally solved an sync issue with a new OS release & Time Machine backups.
After Apple, Deanna became a consultant for Microsoft where she was a part of a worldwide project to expand Microsoft Stores, which included support strategy, creating an omni-channel CMS, and creation of the first major retain chain visual IVR. After her consulting contract was over she was a Project Manager for website and app development for brands such as Fox Business News, Andreessen-Horowitz, Georgetown University, and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. Her recent marketing experience includes worldwide hotel chain Hyatt, and Chihuly, award-winning glass sculptor.
Prior to her time in the tech industry, she worked in the music/entertainment industry with well-known brands such as MTV, Universal Music Group, SXSW, and smaller labels such as Samso Records America. On a local basis, her work with the Austin Music Foundation, Austin Celtic Festival, and Austin Music Network helped shape the creative voice of Austin, Texas. Throughout her tenure in the music industry Deanna worked in web design, digital and print marketing, sales, supply chain, and special events including Woodstock ’99 and the annual MTV Campus Invasion.
Activities Outside of Work
Outside of work Deanna enjoys road trips, photography, blogging, and spending time with her family.
Her road trips have taken her over 200,000 miles in the last 4 years, and to over 20 National Parks in the last year alone. Her goal is to visit all 413 units of the National Park System.
As a 22-year Vegetarian, her favorite foods actually include pizza and tacos. We've also found she’s just a little obsessed with Topo Chico sparkling mineral water...not too awkward, but close.
Interesting Facts About Deanna
- Deanna's driven an astounding 200,000+ miles in the last 4 years. We're not too familiar with what it's like to be a trucker, but we're pretty sure she puts most of them to shame.
- Deanna can make balloon animals. Seriously. Good ones.
- Deanna started her own company at the ripe old age of 15.
To which we softly replied, "So uh, not into animals, huh?"
"Well, it's not an animal but it provides a place for animals to live, eat, & rest. Trees hold the earth together and clean the air. And let's be honest, the most powerful animal that exists are humans... and for the most part we don't exactly utilize that power for the good of all. So a tree is where it's at."
And with that, we secretly designated Deanna as our in-house environmentalist, hiding all Styrofoam cups from view.
We were stoked to see Deanna had a TON of goals. In fact, we had to trim them down for the sake of this article. Here are a few of her goals...
Short Term Goals:
"Within my first year, I want to create or co-create a new process, learn a new skill from a co-worker, help a co-worker improve a skill, and by my work anniversary I want to ensure everyone I work with feels like an extended part of my family. With 8+/- hours a day together, I want to rejoice in each others work & personal successes, and be there for the harder times."
Long Term Goals:
"Within the first three years, I want to obtain my PMP Certification, have a more active role in direction of our company with increased responsibility, coordinate larger-scale events on behalf of Firesnap and have made a name for myself professionally in this market (this goal is a continued process, but 3 years seems like a realistic target to see stronger measurable growth)."
